A lot of people these days are turning to a home business called Internet Affiliate Marketing.  Just what is it, how do you market these products, and  how  do you get involved?  I started off doing Internet Affiliate Marketing in October of 2008.  I realized what I was doing was Affiliate Marketing in April of 2009, up until then I didn’t know what I was doing.

First off Internet Affiliate Marketing  is when a person or it could be a group of people, sell products they don’t own,  to people via the Internet.  The Affiliate never handles the product nor does he/she directly interface with the customer.  The products sold are provided by companies  that  have  affiliate  programs.

Now you just can’t go out and sell them because most of the companies that have affiliate have certain restrictions, such as you can’t use spam mail to market their products.  Plus they may provide their own  banners and  text  links that  they require you to use.

How do you market these products?  There are several ways to market affiliate products.  One way that is popular is called article marketing or BUM  (Burn Marketing).  This process you write articles about the product, using a lot of key words so that the search engines will pick them up.  Then post the article on line at such posting sites as squidoo.  This way people looking for the  product you wrote  about, will come read your article and  then  click the  link you have provided in your article to the  product and  there you go, you made some money.

Another method is advertising.  You can post a free text ad about the product at various free advertising sites on  line, such as usFreeads, provide a link in the ad to the product you are promoting and  you may get a sell.  Another method is Pay Per Click advertising.  Here you post an  ad on Google, Yahoo, etc and  when  a person clicks on your advertisement to go to your product you will be charged.  Now the  charge of the click depends on how popular the key word is.  The more popular, the  more expensive it is.  You can go up to as much as you want but me being cheap, I look  for key words around 25 cents.  You get charged whether someone buys something or not, so you need to  be careful here, or you can  lose a lot of money.

How do you get  involved?  Well as  a minimum you need a computer and access to the Internet.  But it is good to learn the process from people who will train you.  You will need to know how to get low cost key words, where  to post articles, how to promote your site to the search engines, how to find niche markets, how to find products you wish  to  be a affiliate  of, etc.

It is also good to know a little html code.  Most sites will  provide you with the code but some, you will  need to  know  yourself.  But don’t let this scare you, if you don’t know, ask a question on Google search, and you will get the answer.

Don’t be scared, jump in.

Takes a lot of work in the beginning but it can reap rewards later!

I want reputable companies like Clickbank. I would especially want to market magazines of all sort. Also if you know of magazines I can promote directly from the publisher the better. I prefer payment via paypal. Where do I get such products or programs with them?

These organizations claim that they attach cookies to visitors that come from my site and if they buy their product/service I get paid. What if i make 10 sales but they only tell me that I made 1? If you’re dealing with reputable companies, don’t worry. They’re more than willing to pay you a few bucks to keep the program attractive to you and others just like you.

Some companies use promotional codes to identify which affiliate send the business their way. The problem with these programs is that your friends might forget to insert the promo code. If the program also gives your friend a discount, then she is highly motivated to insert the code. Try to select these.

It isn’t in anybody’s interest to cheat you or other affiliates. Publicly traded companies must prove that they have adequate controls of all their financial dealings, and this would just be one of the items that would have to pass that test. If you’re working with a small, privately-held company, it’s possible that the controls aren’t there. But, these companies need you far more that the big boys do, and they know that making sure you earn good dollars is the best way to keep the sales rolling in.

If you understand that working with a drop shipper means that you sell the product and they stock it and ship it for you and affiliate marketing where you market another vendors product for a commission when a sale is made then you need to ask yourself what you would be more comfortable doing and what you think you could make money doing.

Both types of business you will have to do the same thing as far as marketing the site to get the traffic you need to make a conversion. Just because you publish a website for either type business doesn’t mean you are visible to the search engines and the public at large, that takes work to get that ball rolling. I would suggest that you go to an article directory an put in an inquiry about the things you need to do and I will also give you some info on some of the things that need to happen to get started.

If you plan to incorporate then you need to register with the federal,state and city government. If you plan to run the business as a sole proprietor then all you need is a business license from your local city government. Some cities do not require you to get a business license until the business makes $ 3,000 to $ 4,000 so see what your local government requires for an e-commerce business.

Steps for getting started:
First and foremost write up a business plan.
1. Forming the business either through incorporating or as a sole proprietor. If you plan to incorporate then you need to get with your states Secretary of State to do this.
2. Find your SIC and NAICS code you will need either one or both for your business formation with the government entities.
3. Getting an EIN if required
4. Setting up a Franchise and Excise Tax and Sales and Use Tax account with the Dept of Revenue in the state you are in. You need to determine if you need one or both of these accounts. Just call the Dept of Revenue in your state and they are usually pretty helpful in answering all your questions.
5. Set up a business bank account or bank account with a DBA attached to it if you plan to do the business as a sole proprietor if you incorporate then a business bank account is what you need.
6. Set up a merchant and or paypal account. The merchant account you can set up through your bank and this allows you to take all major credit cards.
7. Build a website and get a domain name and hosting. You can either build your own website or have one built for you, some start out with a blog because it’s free and you can make it look like a standard website so take a look at this option and see if it will work for you. Just keep in mind if you use a blog you need relevant content in the body of the blog if it’s just full of product links then you will eventually get shut down. As far as building your own you can either buy software or use the online website builders. Using the software allows you to create your site how you want it just make sure the hosting provider you use will support the software, with the online website builders you will be limited to their templates and I believe you have to use their hosting but you can buy your domain name from anywhere and just direct to their server.
Research SEO for your website, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and you can read about this at any article directory. Once in the directory put in a search for what you are wanting to read about and you should get some articles to read up on. If your search comes up empty or not what you are looking for just reword the search until you do. The info is there you just need to use the right phrasing. If you are on a tight budget you may also look into free ways to market your site.
8. Get inventory.
9. Figure out how you plan to ship product. This all comes down to how you plan to handle inventory. Some people have their own and some get involved with companies that have the product and you sell it and they drop ship the product for you. This saves on you having to carry the product yourself and having unsold inventory in your possession. If you plan to do affiliate marketing then you need to sign up to the affiliate programs and get your code specific links to post on your site.
10. Marketing your website. Just because you publish a website doesn’t mean it’s visible to the search engines and the public at large so you need to submit the site to the 3 top search engines at the least and start marketing the site.

This is a basic order and some of these may overlap each other during the process but I hope this helps out. I’ve been through the routine and had to figure it all out myself. Just ask a lot of questions with the people you are dealing with to get things in order.

If you want to help seperate your personal life and monies from your business. You will need it for the bank account. You can get it through your states website for free. (There is a fee to start it and renew it). Best to talk to a accountant, as there is a better way at lease in my state to avoid taxs (I should say not to be taxed as much and more fairly). Busienss license depends on your government. Cities may require them.

All I know is that you need to get a conversion tracker. Google adwords has this. This tells you what adwords are being used to get people to your site and buying the product. It gives you a conversion rate. This is the number of potentiall visitors performing the desired action, like buying your product, or some other goal of your web page.

Also you need to research the company before you become an affiliate. You definitely don’t want to go into a company that will cheat you. Try looking up the company on BBBonline. I don’t know the exact web address so you will have to put that into the search engine and the website will come up. Then you can read the report for that particular company.
Have you thought about working for clickbank? I dont know how to earn money through ebay. What I do know is going through ebay can be a hassle. You have to pay ebay a fee for posting, you have to worry about shipping costs, paying a fee for a paypal account, if Im not mistaken and worrying about fraud. Some people have been successful with E-bay so it’s all up to the individual.

I found out alot about affiliate marketing just by googling it and reading about it. Then several people that sell money making software and e-book tutorials will pop up too. I recently bought Profit Praxis for $ 47 because I’m a noob. It’s hard to understand it though. But at least most of these people offer a money back guarantee and that’s what you want to look for if you do buy these e-book tutorials.

There are tons of guides out there introducing adwords, sorry them kind of become a blur to me, it’s worth viewing at least one over the shoulder tutorial video package, to ge a feel for the flow, you can probably find something at clickbank in the $ 20 range, though googles online educational material is extensive and will teach you all of the mechanics.

If you were investing in a single package, get something that encompasses a broader range including adwords, perhaps a general affiliate marketing package, or looking a step further, a CPA marketing package, which will often touch on PPC as one if several promotion techniques. The CPA packages tend to be pricey though, because that that way the big money hunters go.

While version 1 sold last for $ 97, version 2 is more like $ 397. Perhaps you can find someone with version 1.
